Hi Alistair here form Wave 102 So I have managed to get through to my final challenge. For week 4 it’s all about motivation, so I am now keeping a chart with how much activity I am getting to let me see how I am getting on. It’s a good idea as it is helping me plan what I am doing. Still managing to park and walk in to the office, which I have found is not part of my routine. I am planning more walking as the weather gets better so looking forward to it. The girls from DTA will be here on Friday for our catch up. Keep trying to get that 30 minutes 5 times a week Keep active – Alistair

Alistair @ Wave 102 here again – well the weather hasn’t been kind this week but still managing to park and walk in giving met that 10 to 15 minutes walking each way. I’m going to put swimming once a week into my routine after managing 3 times last week, and although it has been tempting I am still managing to walk to the local shops rather than take the car. So trying to keep motivated. The girls from Dundee Travel Active will be in on the Mid Day show on Friday on Wave 102, so tune in to see what they have to say and set me another challenge for week 4 Let me know what you are up to – Alistair

Hi Alistair at Wave 102 here sorry not been blogging everyday but here is my catch up. The girls from Dundee Travel Active were in on Friday to see how I was getting on. Good news managed to keep on walking but parking further away, although I did forget where I parked one day - it's an age thing! Also managed to get some swimming into my routine was swimming 3 times last week, but I’m not sure I can keep up three time, but will try and go once a week ongoing. Also my challenge this week was to walk to the local shops rather than go the short distance by can. It’s so tempting to do the short journey by car, but it’s working, up hill to get there but it’s downhill on the way back! Let me know how you are getting on, and the girls from DTA will be back in to see me on Friday on Wave 102 between 11 and 12 Cheers – Alistair

Hi Alistair from the Mid Day Show on Wave 102 with the latest update. Still doing the walking which is good, the walk into work is going well, still getting my 30 minutes a day just from this one thing, but was challenged to go swimming this week, so have been once already this week - going to try and do it three time. Felt great afterwards. Will be cathing up aith the girls from DTA on Friday's show so listen out for more hints and tips. Happy walking and let me know how you are getting on. :-)

Opps sorry - haven't written for a couple of days. So here we go. The girls from DTA came in to my show on Wave 102 on Friday morning and we found out I had been walking every day getting my 30 minutes in. Jon, is doing well but he parked outside the other day! It is very tempting!! But we have both managed to save some money by not feeding the parking meter everyday. I found somewhere different to park this morning, and looking out my swimming shorts and off for a quick swim tonight. Let me know how you are gettin on too. Happy walking - Alistair

Hi Alistair from Wave 102 again - today was tempting to park closer because it was freezing this morning, but I am true to the challenge, parked along Perth Road and walked in, I was listening to the radio via my phone to keep me company on the walk, and found myself singing out loud! Ooops! Day 5 tomorrow and myself and Jon will be set another challenge. Listen out on Wave 102 on Firday morning between 11 and 12 to find out more. Cheers Alistair

Hi Alistair from Wave 102 here. Keeping up my walking by parking further away from the office. Finding some places I didn't know existed! Today was a nice walk, the sun was shining, although it was a wee bit cold. I managed it into the office just before 9 too - just got to add a bit extra on to my journey time but keeping up OK. Hope you are doing well too. Alistair :-)

Hiya! Jon here from Wave 102 - so, this excersise business..... Today was the official day one of the challenge, Alistair and I have been challenged to park the car further away - I did it! My car is officially stranded 0.8 miles away in Perth Road, the walk to work was great this morning, had the tunes on the iPod and marched in - fantastic! I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow, maybe by the time I go get the car I'll be folded like a deckchair puffing and panting at the end of the Perth Road - if this is the case, and you see me, just move me out of the way of any cars - thanks! :)

Our office competition has got off to a great start - we have started keeping diaries of our activities for this month to see who can clock up the most minutes. Keeping a daily diary is a great way to see how we're doing and we all find it very motivating. We started on the 1st of feb and this week, as well as some extra activites Susan completed her 5 X 30 simply by walking 15 minutes before and after work. As well as feeling great she has saved herself £4 per day in parking. Kirsty did a whopping 5 hours of activity, no wonder she feels so energised. Sarah and Caley completed their 5 X 30 and are really feeling the health and money saving benefits of some extra activity. Look out for our next update... we'd love to hear some of your stories too..

Think I walked at least five miles today!!!! From the back of the Wellgate up to Tannadice Street, Fleming Gardens East, Cleppington Road, down Caird Avenue along Strathmore Avenue down the hilltown then half way up a multi!!! Thats not taking into account the massive amounts of stairs I climbed!! Truly invigorating!!!! If that wasnt enough I then walked from Tesco on the Kingsway, definitely getting into the whole Travel Active thing!! Helps being a Travel Advisor though I suppose........

Hope to keep up the travel active spiritover winter by joining Abertay's badminton club and also the gym. may even learn to cycle as a guinea pig for gary! wish me luck! =)

A couple of weeks back I took my son (aged 4) and my nephew (aged 5) on an Dundee Travel Active adventure around Dundee. We went to mini kickers at the Douglas Sports Centre in themorning, then down town for lunch, took a bus half way up the Hilltown and then walked over the Law hill onto Lochee for Ice Cream at Davie's (yummy and low fat ;-) ). Back on the bus down town, a wander round City Square then bussed it up to Fairmuir Park. Ran ourselves into the ground and then got the bus to Gran's house for a drink. We all slept well. Seriously though walking about and taking the kids on a bus adventure was great fun and as an avid public transport user it is really important to show these young adventurers that you can get everywhere in Dundee on foot and by bus. It was really cheap (£2.70 for me and £1.80 for the five year old). We all loved our day out together

Walked in to work again this morning - walking briskly as it looked like rain. It is nice being out in the fresh air rather than being on a stuffy bus. Felt refreshed and ready for the day ahead. Walked home it was a bit showery to begin with but with waterproof and umbrella I survived. It was great walking past the lanes of traffic on Dock Street - there was nothing holding me up!! Statistics for the day are - 2hr 16mins - 17,058 steps - 6.7miles - 566 calories.

The route I have to go is approx 13/4 miles and has two steep inclines. Day is wet, but not raining now. Don't enjoy the actual cycle but have a great feeling 15-20mins after. Had to get off bike and walk the inclines. Wet and cold this morning, but I soon warmed up on cycling path. There is camaraderie amongst the other cyclists that you meet on the path, most voice encouragement to the new face (me). Enjoyed the ride to work today and felt energised after. Managed one of the inclines I had to walk before.

I was a bit nervous about cycling as I haven't really ridden a bike for a long time, so I decided that I would travel along the nature trail through Wormit and Newport rather than on the road so that I wasn't intimidated by the traffic and could take my time. Good idea in theory, but it actually involved carrying my bike up and down a few flights of stairs! Coming over the Tay Road Bridge was enjoyable, even if I did get overtaken several times.... I decided to brave the road today. Not too much traffic as it was still quite early but I did get a bit of a fright when a big bus pulled up behind me! It's a bit nerve-wrecking having that amount of metal revving up behind you... There are also quite a lot of road works going on near me and I wasn't really sure how to deal with that e.g. whether or wait behind cars or go past them and go first. Time to read up on my Highway Code!

I walk or cycle to work pretty much everyday, except the occasional lazy/rainy day when I get the bus. The route I take is the same for both. It's just over a mile to work and mostly downhill, which is great as I get to work really quickly and without getting sweaty! On the way home I often go up Ward Road/ Guthrie Street (great historic features and some of the oldest mills in the city) as it is a bit flatter, quieter and it avoids the busy Marketgait/ Hawkhill roundabouts. I see lots of other walkers and quite a few cyclists on my route, I wonder if they get the same satisfaction from it that I do... I hope so!
