Cycling ...

Cycling in Scotland has never been easier, SUSTRANS, the sustainable transport charity, has developed an interactive map showing the National Cycle Network, signed on-road cycle routes, traffic-free routes and other features, including attractions and transport interchanges. The map is available at: www.sustrans.co.uk see what cycle routes are available near where you live and work. This map can also be bought at Ottakers and Waterstones bookshops and costs only £4.50 ??need to check)

"Research has shown that people sitting in cars in heavy traffic ingest more polluted air than those cycling along the same street"

If you do not wish to cycle all the way to work, you could consider taking your car part of the way and cycling the rest of the way to work along the congested routes where cycling is often faster than car travel.
