What is the Cycling City Club?
The Cycling City Club is a free membership club currently open to anyone in the Bristol City Council area. Amongst the benefits of registering as a club member is access to our one-to-one cycling advice service, offering personal advice tailored to your individual circumstances and needs. We can:- Check you bike for roadworthiness and refer your bike to a mobile bike mechanic who can visit you at home or at work.
- Help plan work and leisure routes using maps, leaflets and book articles
- Accompany you on routes that you may be unfamiliar with, for example the commute to work.
- Offer advice on the types of bikes available, costs, local bike shops, and the Cycle to Work scheme. We can even accompany you to your local bike shop!
- If you can't ride a bike, or want to increase your confidence and cycling abilities on roads and in traffic, we can refer you to a one-to-one or group cycle training session at a greatly subsidised cost.
- Subscriber-only discounts at a range of local shops
- Special events for Cycling City Club members only, such as local community bike rides
- Regular updates on the club website and by email newsletter
- Regular prize draws and competitions
- Online access to information on a range of cycling topics such as What type of bike should I buy?
Cycling City status was awarded to the Greater Bristol area in 2008 in recognition of our solid commitment to promote and encourage cycling through better infrastructure, training and promotion. The total funding of £22.8 million brings the potential for unprecedented levels of innovation, involvement and creativity. Cycling City status is not just an award - it is an opportunity.
The aim of Cycling City is to double the number of regular cyclists in Greater Bristol. To do this we need to deliver information and infrastructure which links people, where they live, to work, school, shopping and leisure activities as well as providing them with the skills to confidently undertake such journeys.
Every citizen, not just those who cycle, will benefit from better air quality, less traffic congestion and safer roads. Those who we reach will also benefit from improved health and well-being, a cost-effective and sustainable form of transport to last a lifetime, and a fresh perspective on our beautiful city and the surrounding area.
